Background:
The Cone (Conidae) family of shells comprises at least 300 species. They are successful predators feeding on small fish and other molluscs. The creature that once lived within the shell was able to immobilise its prey with a harpoon-like tooth which it extended beyond the length of the shell. Don't worry the shell has been thoroughly cleaned before being polished so it no longer poses any risk.
